So, as per my last journal, I want to start a freelancing guide of some sort.
Problem is, I am not sure which route I want to take. Here are the options:
- eBook: $1 for a 25+ page book with images, may be organized into print some day
- Web series: weekly chapters until the book is finished. Free but with ads, pay $5 to become a supporter and remove ads permanently
- YouTube series: free but with video ads, weekly videos
So here are my thoughts. eBook is probably the most lucrative as most people will want all of the information right away. Web series is the easiest and I can get started immediately to start building up a following, but will also have to do a TON of SEO to get it to be even viable. YouTube series is great because people hate reading and like to put a face to their advice. The series options give me the ability to expand and change direction at a whim.
What do you think, and what would you prefer to see?

Want to learn how to freelance?
Would you be interested in an eBook explaining how to get started as a freelance artist, ranging from what to learn, areas you can explore, how to secure jobs, and general freelance etiquette?
I make my living solely off of freelance contracts and have been freelancing for over three years. I am thinking of writing one and selling it super cheap on Amazon (like $1 or something).
If so, is there anything you'd specifically like to see covered?
Commissions - $2 and up
I am not going to list specific prices here, but as a base idea I will say that I would charge $2 for a quick black and white character sketch (~15 minutes). A full body character illustration would be around $10 depending on level of detail, etc.
I will do both traditional and digital work. Anything you see in my gallery is fair game.
Send me a note and we can discuss further details if you are interested in helping me pay my rent :D
Here is a list of some things I can do:
DIGITAL
- Raster/Vector Illustration
- Flash animation
- Flash game/UI assets
- Photography (if you or your subject is in the Central New York area)

RANT: Web Advertisement
Web advertising has gotten so ridiculous. Especially for video games. I understand the boundaries of society have shifted even since my days as a child, but I find myself squinting every few minutes to make sure I'm reading these banners correctly. It's sickening how hypersexualized our society has become.
And the sad part? It is an effective advertising campaign for site hits. Maybe I'm just a huge loser nerd or something, but advertisers could take a lesson from games like League of Legends. Their early season 1 banners that briefly explain what the game is about through 3-4 pictures and a few words are much more effective in attract

I personally think that starting out with YouTube would be much easier than a web series since it's, in my opinion, much easier to get exposure on YouTube, and depending on how you go about doing it, it could be pretty easy to build up a decent following. Once you build up a follower base of a certain size, you could start doing eBooks and actual printed copies.
